The Power of Ritual

A ritual for today:
allow yourself at least one moment
of complete contentment.
Allow yourself
at least one full breath
of the holy.
Allow yourself
to step into the sacred
and expand your view,
remembering your own belonging
to this wild web of incarnation
we all weave together.
Allow yourself
a moment of grace
and a moment of return.
It is brave to be here,
inhabiting at all.

“People are starved for this.” Many years ago, a doctor I know who had purchased Womanrunes from me, said this to me. People are hungry for meaning, for ritual, for magic, for depth of living.

The overculture keeps pulling us toward the shallow and the hurried, over and over again, faster and faster and faster and faster.

Ritual doesn’t have to be elaborate or overplanned. It can be:

  • A hand on your heart and three breaths
  • A candle lit with intention
  • A circle of friends, online or in person, who dare to go a little deeper and then deeper still.

Today, consider this your permission slip to create the ritual you’re craving.

What simple ritual helps you feel rooted and real? Present in your body, in this time and place, on this earth, (with these people)?

This photo is from my small circle yesterday–just three of us. Rose petals around us. Goats in the yard. Wind in our hair. Mosquitos on our skin. Kids asking us questions. Chamomile on our foreheads. Songs on our lips. Inhabiting the real.
