Poem: Don’t Miss It

Spring is early this year,
don’t miss it.
While you’ve been worrying
about the taxes
and getting the groceries
the wild plums have bloomed
all by themselves.
The peaches are bedecked in pink,
the pears are trimmed in white,
the elderberries tipped with green
and the maple trees blushed with red.
While you were thinking
about what car to buy
and hunched over your computer,
the magnolias
have softly opened
into flower
and rain is coaxing
the mushrooms
up from their hiding places
between roots and stones.
Unclench those fists of uncertainty.
Tip your face to the sky.
Welcome both sun and rain
to kiss your skin.
You, too,
are invited to become dedicated
to your own emergence.
